Melbourne Wangaratta Festival of Jazz

Jazz lovers have to visit the annual Melbourne Jazz festival held at Wangaratta in November. Only 2.5 hours north east of Melbourne city it is easily accessible by car, bus or train. Camping grounds and other accommodation are available in the surrounding region. The festival highlights all that is 'jazz and blues' and is a well known international jazz event with many awards and accolades to its name.

Offering a showcase of all jazz styles, the festival has been held since 1990 with over 90 events and 350 international and Australian musical artists on display each year. It also conducts Youth Jazz workshops, Masterclasses and hosts the National Jazz awards for young musicians. Other related events are held around the nearby wine regions of Wangaratta during the festival.

With 11 venues the Wangaratta Jazz Festival has become the largest Blues festival in the state. Past performances include Australian greats like Don Burrows and Graeme Bell. A large array of talented jazz artists performs every year boosting the careers of many singers, pianists, guitarists and saxophone players. Overseas artists have participated from Europe, Sweden and London.

The musical talent and culture of Victoria is on display at the International Jazz Festival, offering a great meeting place or jam session for young or old musicians. Other festivals of Melbourne include the Arts festival, Royal Melbourne Show and Comedy Festival showcasing the best of local talent in Australia.
